A kit of the Polish TK-3 tankette in 1:100 scale from Zebranomodel. The TK-3 was the earlier of the pair of Polish tankettes that the manufacturer issues in this range, and so it is the natural counterpart of the later TKS. In a collection in a uniform scale it shows well how the design of small tracked vehicles moved on during the 1930s. The material, the number of parts and the contents of the package are not stated here.
The Polish TK-3 belonged to the family of tankettes derived from a British design, which interwar Poland developed further. It was a very small tracked vehicle for a crew of two, with a closed hull and machine gun armament. It came about as a cheap alternative to full-sized tanks for reconnaissance, liaison and infantry escort. Its advantages were a low silhouette, light weight and easy transport; the limitations, by contrast, were thin armor, little interior space and the absence of a rotating turret.
The model is very small even for 1:100 scale, so work over a light surface and with tweezers. Take the parts off with a sharp knife and sand the parting lines down with fine paper, not coarse, otherwise the rivets and the facets of the hull will be lost. Choose the glue to suit the material of the parts and apply it in the smallest possible amount. Apply a thin primer before painting. Polish prewar schemes were multicolored, but at a small scale they look better with softer transitions. Keep the patina restrained; one wash and light dust on the running gear are enough.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
