The kit captures the French infantry tank Renault D2 in the later production configuration. For ground vehicles the 1:100 scale is among the smallest: the finished vehicle fits into the palm of a hand, builds easily into more extensive collections and suits a gaming table too, where vehicles are worked with in groups. The material of the parts, their number and the contents of the package are stated on the box of the kit.
The Renault D2 was a French infantry tank of the 1930s, which followed on from the older D1 type. Against it, it had tougher armor and cannon armament in a traversing turret supplemented by a machine gun. In concept it was a vehicle intended to accompany infantry, that is a machine built for a slower advance and for toughness, not for speed. The series built was limited in number and the vehicles appeared in the fighting of 1940. The later production configuration differed from the first machines in details of the body and the turret.
In 1:100 scale, clean work on a small area is what decides. Separate the parts carefully, true the mating surfaces and dose the glue in minute drops, so that it does not run into the engraving. Before painting, a thin base earns its place, as it unifies the surface and brings out the detail. Apply the paint in fine coats, otherwise the small edges quickly disappear. The shapes stand out well if you breathe a lighter shade over the upper surfaces and let a dark wash into the recesses. French vehicles of the day carried multicolor camouflages with soft transitions; check the particular scheme against period photographs and the instructions.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
