The model covers the Renault R35, the most widespread French light tank of the second half of the 1930s, in 1:100 scale. It is a kit, that is an unassembled and unpainted model. The small scale makes the R35 an ideal candidate for a collection meant to show the whole breadth of the vehicles of its day without taking up a whole display case.
The R35 was designed as an infantry support vehicle meant to replace the obsolete machines of the First World War. Cast construction of both the hull and the turret, a two-man crew and very compact dimensions are typical of it. The armor was solid for its time, while the speed was low, because the vehicle was not supposed to operate on its own but to support advancing infantry. A large number were built and many of them also entered the service of other states.
The cast hull is the most interesting feature of the whole vehicle visually, and it is precisely that which is most easily lost in 1:100 scale. So do not smooth the surface completely; a fine casting texture will do the model good. Clear the parts of the remains of the sprue gates; on resin castings use a soapy water bath and super glue. Without a primer the paint holds poorly on smooth surfaces. French vehicles of that period carried multicolor camouflage with dividing lines, but on a model this small simplify it, as soft transitions and lower contrast look more convincing than sharp boundaries. Finish with a thin wash in the pressings and light dust on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
