An injection-molded plastic kit of the Suzuki RG250 Gamma sports motorcycle in 1:12 from Tamiya. The set captures the machine with part of the frame and the engine exposed, so that once assembled it is not only the fairing that can be seen. The finished model measures 167 mm in length.
The Suzuki RG250 Gamma appeared in 1983 and was one of the first production motorcycles with a frame made of aluminum alloy. Power came from a liquid-cooled two-stroke twin of 247 cc with an output of 45 horsepower, which was very respectable for the quarter-liter class. The machine had a full fairing, a double cradle frame and a swingarm of light alloy, and a front fork with anti-dive under braking. In its shape and its color scheme it declared its kinship with the racing machines of the day.
Paint and assemble the engine and the frame before the fairing goes on, because afterwards you will not reach them. It pays to spray the fairing parts separately on a wire and fit them at the end. Apply thin coats of gloss paint and let them dry through between passes, or a step will show under the decals. Fit the tires onto the rims only after painting and wipe the grease off them.
For the modeler who likes machines on two wheels and wants a striking piece for the shelf. There are fewer parts than in an aircraft, but the demands on the quality of the finish are higher, because the surface stays glossy and smooth.
The package contains plastic parts, rubber tires, decals and instructions. Paints, glue and varnishes are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
