A detail set of replacement landing gear wheels for a less usual and all the more interesting subject. This is not an aircraft kit – the set replaces the wheels of the base kit with fine resin castings.
The Antonov An-8 was the first large turboprop transport aircraft of the Antonov design bureau, developed in the middle of the 1950s. The twin-engine high-wing machine with a rear cargo ramp foreshadowed a whole family of later Soviet transport aircraft and served above all with the Soviet Air Force, later with freight carriers as well. Its landing gear with low-pressure tires hidden in side fairings allowed operation from field airstrips.
With an unconventional subject such as the An-8, details decide – and the wheels are among those an observer sees first. Resin castings offer a clean shape of the tire and drawn-out hubs without the compromises of split plastic parts. Even a less experienced modeler will manage the fitting: cut the casting block off, sand it down, glue it on with super glue. When painting, keep to dark gray tires and green hubs usual on Soviet hardware; a light dusting with pigment will recall service on unpaved surfaces.
