About product

Convair B-36B Peacemaker Early (1:144, Roden)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the giant Convair B-36B Peacemaker strategic bomber in its early version, in 1:144 scale from the Ukrainian maker Roden. Although the scale is small, the enormous real aircraft means the result is a genuinely sizeable model with a massive wingspan. The set contains decals for period markings. The model is supplied as plastic parts; glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package.

The real subject

The Convair B-36 Peacemaker was a giant American strategic bomber, the largest series-produced combat aircraft with piston engines. In the early versions it was powered by six radial engines arranged at the rear of the wings as pushers. The B-36 played a key role in the first years of the Cold War as a carrier of nuclear weapons and a guarantor of the strategic balance, even though it was never used in combat and never dropped its load in a shooting conflict. Its enormous size and range made it a symbol of the beginning of the era of intercontinental bombers.

Building and painting tips

Even in 1:144 scale this is a large model, so count on having room for the wingspan. Seat the six engine nacelles and the propellers precisely for the sake of symmetry. Use liquid cement on the plastic and fill and carefully sand the joints of the massive fuselage. Prime the extensive surfaces and spray them with an airbrush. Create the natural metal finish of the early aircraft with metallic paint on a smooth base; the individual panels can be differentiated gently with shades of metal. Emphasize the panel lines with a thin wash and unify the surface with a satin coat.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of strategic bombers and Cold War hardware
  • For lovers of giant aircraft who will appreciate a large model even in a small scale
  • For anyone interested in the early intercontinental carriers of nuclear weapons
  • For more advanced modelers — a large piece with many engines

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Because the real aircraft was enormous. The Convair B-36 was one of the largest combat aircraft in history, so even in the small 1:144 scale the result is a sizeable model with a large wingspan.

It is the early version of the B-36B, powered by six radial piston engines arranged as pushers. The model captures this initial form of the bomber.

Because of the size and the six engine nacelles the build is recommended rather for more experienced modelers. The joints of the massive fuselage have to be filled and sanded carefully.
