Mount the base on a flat board — cardboard, plywood or rigid foam — otherwise the edges will ripple over time. Apply the glue in a thin continuous layer or use double-sided tape, so that no bubbles form. You can cover the edges with a thin strip, which makes the scene look complete. Protect the print from damp and from long spells of direct sun, so that it does not fade. A few small accessories in matching scale will add credibility — figures of personnel, a tug or securing fittings. When photographing, place the light to one side and slightly above, so that the shadow of the model falls onto the surface of the deck; the scene then reads three-dimensionally and does not look like a model laid on a picture. The glossy surface of the print can be flattened with a thin coat of matte varnish from a spray can applied from a greater distance — but try it on an edge first, not in the middle of the area.
