A vacuum-formed canopy for the Ki-45 Toryu model in 1:144 scale replaces the original clear part from the kit. It is not an airplane model but a separate replacement part.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory from the Czech maker Brengun, intended for a model of the Japanese Ki-45 twin-engine heavy fighter. It is not a kit but a clear cockpit canopy vacuum-drawn over a form, fitted in place of the part from the Nichimo kit.
The Ki-45 had a long two-seat canopy with a large glazed area. It is on a shape like that that the thickness of an injected clear part is most on show: the glazing is cloudy, the frames are wide and along the whole length of the canopy you cannot see into the interior. Vacuum-drawn film has a wall in tenths of a millimeter, so the work done inside the fuselage is finally visible and the transition between the glazing and the fuselage spine looks smooth.
Cut the canopy out of the backing film with a generous margin and only then sand it gradually to its final outline. Abrasive paper laid on flat glass and frequent test fitting on the model both prove their worth: you can always take more off, never put it back. On a long canopy, watch that the edge is the same height all along, otherwise the canopy will rock. It is glued with white glue, which does not fog it. The frames are masked with narrow strips of masking tape or with a masking set; take the mask off while the paint has only just dried, not after several days.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
