About product

PZL M-28 Skytruck 1:144 — Amodel plastic kit

An unassembled and unpainted plastic kit in 1:144 scale of the Polish PZL M28 Skytruck light utility aircraft. The kit is made by the Ukrainian company Amodel, which specializes in the less usual transport and special-purpose aircraft that the big brands leave out of their programs. The small 1:144 scale makes the finished model a compact item for the display case and fits well into a collection of transport machines.

The real subject

The PZL M28 Skytruck is a light transport high-wing aircraft built in Mielec and derived in design from the twin-engine An-28. The combination of two turboprop engines, rugged landing gear and a strut-braced wing gives it short take-off and landing capability and the ability to operate from unpaved strips. The machine serves in civil and government roles carrying people and cargo, on liaison flights, on patrol and reconnaissance tasks and in parachute training. Its undemanding maintenance has found it a place with a number of operators outside Europe.

Building and painting tips

Amodel belongs to short-run production: the parts have heavier sprue gates and parting lines that need cleaning up, and the build is worth taking forward through a series of dry fits. Secure the joints with a thin, capillary-flowing plastic cement, fill any gaps with putty and sand them back. Apply a primer before painting; it evens out the surface and reveals leftover scratches. The paint itself can be handled by an airbrush or by a good spray can; on a transport scheme it pays to spray a light base first and then mask the colored stripes. Glue the clear glazing parts with a cement made for canopies, which does not attack clear plastic, and apply the decals over a gloss surface so that no edges remain visible.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of transport and utility aircraft in 1:144 scale
  • Modelers who get on with a short-run kit and do not mind cleaning parts up by hand
  • Anyone interested in Polish aviation and in machines derived from the An-28
  • Builders with a display case where space is short and large scales will not fit

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a conventional plastic kit — the parts are on sprues, and you assemble and paint the model yourself. Glue and paints are not included in the package.

Rather not. Amodel is short-run production, where the mating surfaces are not as precise as with the big brands. Experience with filling, sanding and dry-fitting parts helps.

The 1:144 scale means a very compact model that fits even a smaller display case. The exact dimensions follow from the span and length of the real aircraft.

A primer followed by acrylic or enamel modeling paints applied with an airbrush works well. Apply the decals over a gloss surface and finally seal them with a clear coat of the sheen you want.
