This accessory set from the Czech maker Brengun is aimed at modelers who build scenes around their models. It holds small tools, exactly the kind of equipment that lies everywhere on a real airfield or in a workshop and is missing on a model. The set is not a kit in its own right and does not give you a model.

Why the small things decide

A viewer judges a diorama by whether it feels lived in. Even the best-built machine on an empty surface looks like an exhibit in a display case, while a few wrenches lying around, a pry bar or a tool leaning against a wall immediately suggest that someone was working here a moment ago. In 1:144 scale such elements are practically impossible to make yourself, which is why a ready-made set earns its place.

Tips for working it

The parts are really small, so work over a tray with a rim and keep fine tweezers at hand. We recommend painting them before you separate them, otherwise they are hard to handle. Metal portions only need a dark graphite or steel shade, wooden handles a warm brown tone. A dark wash settles the color into the detail and a light dry-brush along the edges brings back the shine. Never lay the tools out regularly in the scene: an uneven pile plus one or two pieces set aside, as if someone had just put them down, looks best.
