The YS-11 was a twin-engine turboprop airliner, the first postwar series-built transport type of Japanese design. It was an all-metal low-wing monoplane with retractable landing gear, powered by two turboprop engines and with a capacity of about sixty passengers in civil configuration. The machine proved itself on short routes with limited runway length and, besides the airlines, it was also operated in transport and special configurations by the Japanese armed forces, where it served for decades. The military versions differ from the civil ones in their internal layout, their equipment and their finish.
A small scale forgives less than it seems. Fill the fuselage joints and sand them smooth, because on aircraft with pronounced single-color areas every groove shows. Spray the propellers separately and mask the blades so that the metallic shade does not reach the leading edges of the wing. Deal with the windows and the windshield either with the clear parts supplied or with a decal, according to what is in the box; the window surrounds are brought out well with a fine brush once the base color has dried. Coat the areas with gloss clear before the decals and, once they have dried, unify the surface with a satin clear coat, which looks more natural on an airliner than full matte.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
