Among figures, 1:20 scale is one of the larger ones. For a person about 180 cm tall it corresponds to a height of roughly 9 cm, that is a size at which every stroke of the brush shows on the finished work. That is exactly why large scales are chosen where the figure is to be an exhibit in its own right and not just an accessory beside a model.
The procedure and the extent of the parts are stated in the manufacturer's instructions included in the package. Cut the excess material and the traces of manufacture away with a sharp blade a little distance from the part and carefully sand off the remainder, so that the surface detail is not rubbed away. Wash and degrease the figure before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold.
