The Corolla Levin is the sporting coupe version of the Toyota Corolla; the AE101 generation was built from the start of the 1990s and in Japan was among the popular light cars with front-wheel drive and a 1600 cc four-cylinder engine. The designation JTC refers to the Japanese touring car championship, which was run under group rules with cars derived from series production. The Levin started in it in the lowest capacity division, where low weight and high engine revs were relied on rather than displacement. Compared with series machines, the racing cars had a stripped interior with a roll cage, a modified chassis, racing wheels and prominent sponsor liveries, which make the model a rewarding piece in terms of color.
With racing cars the body finish decides the result: apply a primer, sand it with fine paper and spray the color in several thin coats. Gloss clear is necessary before the decals, because the sponsor liveries are large in area and would silver on a matte surface. Seat large decals in sections with plenty of water and softener and press them down with a cotton swab from the center outwards. Finish and paint the interior with its roll cage before you join the body to the floor. At the end it is worth clear coating the whole model with gloss clear — that sinks the decals in and gives the surface the uniform look of a racing car.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
