Divide the ladder with a sharp modeling knife or a fine saw; level the cut with a file, so that the part seats cleanly. It is glued with cement for plastic models, and for a joint with metal or resin use cyanoacrylate glue. Degrease the part before painting and apply a thin primer, then spray or brush with acrylic. A dark wash that runs between the rungs will give a convincing impression, as will light dry brushing of the edges in a lighter shade; with a metal ladder, fine rust at the joints and at the foot is also recommended.
