The resin casting captures an outdoor freezer box for bagged ice together with the fine relief of the sheet metal, the hinges and the handle of the lid. Decals with the lettering of the box are included in the package, so that after painting it becomes an immediately legible element of the scene. The accessory stands on its own, but it suits mainly as scenery for car models in 1:24 — it can also be built as a small vignette on a little base.
Freezer boxes for bagged ice have been part of the American street inventory since the middle of the last century. They stood at the entrances of supermarkets, drugstores and gas stations, where drivers bought ice for their coolers for the road. It is a freestanding freezer chest with a tilting lid and a bold advertising wrap of the operator; it is precisely that wrap that turns an otherwise inconspicuous box into an element that immediately fixes the country and the period of a scene. Weathered sheet metal, scuffed edges and rust at the foot are characteristic.
First wash the resin castings with lukewarm water and dish soap — otherwise the remains of the mold release agent from the mold will not let the paint hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutter, and never break them off. Sand wet and with respiratory protection, as resin dust does not belong in the lungs. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), and ordinary glue for plastic does not work here. Apply a primer before painting, after which ordinary modeling acrylics are enough. The credibility comes only with the weathering: a dark wash in the recesses, light scuffs on the edges and dust pigment at the foot of the part.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, a base and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
