A set of pre-cut stencils for a large model of the Junkers Ju 87B dive bomber. It covers the broken-up glazing of the two-seat cockpit from the outside and the inside and adds five masks for the national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
Germany put the B version of the Ju 87 into action in the first years of the war and it became a symbol of the lightning advance of 1940. You can tell it by the cranked inverted gull wing, the fixed landing gear in massive fairings and the ram-air driven sirens that gave out a wailing note in a dive. Under the fuselage hung a crutch that swung the bomb clear of the propeller.
The cockpit sits high and is glazed literally from the windscreen back to the gunner's station at the rear. In 1:24 scale an area like that works out to several dozen separate panes divided by a rectangular framework. This type is among the most demanding aircraft to mask at all, and the difference between hand-painted frames and ones sprayed through a stencil is visible at first glance.
The sheet holds two matching sets of shapes. One covers the clear areas while the top finish is laid on, and the second fits the same layout from the inside, so the framework can be painted even where you can no longer reach once the cockpit is closed. Five masks for the national insignia is one of the highest numbers in this range and is enough even for a layout where the marking appears on both sides of the fuselage and on the wings.
The package is intended to complete a kit you have bought. Work section by section, that is the fixed front part first and then the sliding sections, otherwise it is easy to lose your way among so many similar shapes. The gunner's station is also often built open, and then it is worth giving the inner side of its glazing the same care as the front cockpit, because it will be the most visible part of the finished model.
