Lewis Mk.II 1:24 is a pair of resin castings of the aircraft variant of the British Lewis machine gun. It is not a kit but an accessory for detailing a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set holds two castings of the Lewis machine gun in the Mk.II variant, that is in the form adapted for use on airplanes, in 1:24 scale. In a large scale the gun is the dominant detail of the observer's position, and the difference between a simplified plastic part and a resin casting is plain at first glance. This is not an aircraft kit — it is an accessory to be fitted to a model under construction or already finished, to a figure or into a diorama.
The Lewis was a 7.7 mm machine gun with gas operation and a pan magazine above the gun. The Mk.II aircraft version differs from the ground one above all in a simpler solution for cooling the barrel: because the oncoming airstream blew over the gun, the bulky jacket could be dropped and the gun was lightened. It was used in flexible installations for observers and gunners, where low weight and a quick magazine change were valued.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a disc and level the area wet; protect your airways when sanding resin. It is bonded with super glue, cyanoacrylate. For painting, a dark steel or graphite base coat suits it, with a dark wash over it in the recesses and fine dry brushing of the edges. Suggest wear sparingly and only where the gun was really handled.
This is an accessory, not a complete kit. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
