A large decal sheet for the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2 kit in 1:24 scale. It carries the markings of three machines of German fighter aces, among them two aircraft from the Arctic Ocean, and a mask for the canopy completes it.
Responsibility details are not available.
The G series, known among pilots as the Gustav, was the most numerously built form of the Messerschmitt Bf 109. The G-2 subtype of 1942 did not yet have a boosted engine with methanol injection, but it was light and did better in a horizontal turn than the later, heavier variants. It was on this one that a number of famous names scored most of their kills.
The first option belongs to the yellow eleven of Hermann Graf of the 9th Staffel of JG 52, the pilot who was the first in the world to pass two hundred confirmed aerial victories. The remaining two aircraft served with the 6th Staffel of JG 5 in the Finnish north, where the fighting was over the passage of Allied convoys to Murmansk. Rudolf Müller and Heinrich Ehrler flew them, both in the spring of 1943.
In a large scale a decal is seen from close up and what decides is the registration of the colors and the thinness of the carrier film. The motifs are printed deeply and once settled on a glossy base they merge with the surface so that the edge of the film does not shout.
First even out the area under the markings with gloss varnish. Dip the motif in lukewarm water, let it come free and slide it off the paper onto a wet spot on the model, where it can still be adjusted for a while. Squeeze the air out with a soft cloth from the center to the edges and let it dry properly. The enclosed mask helps with framing the canopy. Paints, glue and the model itself are separate items.
