The Lancer EX is a compact sedan of the turn of the 1970s and 1980s with a classic layout, that is, the engine at the front and rear-wheel drive. The 1800GSR Turbo version is its sporting peak: it received a turbocharged four-cylinder engine of roughly 1.8 liters, a stiffer chassis and different exterior elements. Adding an intercooler in 1983 was one of the steps of the period by which the temperature of the intake air on turbocharged engines was lowered and the output raised; cars modified in this way also differ from the earlier ones in the details of the front end. The angular silhouette with large glass areas is characteristic of this generation.
On angular cars of the 1980s what shows most are the edges, the trim strips and the frames. Sand the body, even it out with a filler primer and spray the paint in thin coats. You can handle the chrome trim either by masking with narrow tape or with a thin layer of silver applied by brush, wiping the excess off the edge afterwards. Leave the wheels and the tires separate until the end. Paint the engine bay and the interior before the body is closed up and bring them out with a wash, because the inside is clearly visible through the large glazing. Apply the decals onto a gloss coat and finish with a semi-matte layer.
