An unassembled injection-molded plastic kit of a car in 1:24 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The boxing is tied to a precisely defined form: the four-door sedan body, the sporting SSS-R version of the U12 generation and the late batch from 1990. The manufacturer releases early and late batches and different equipment levels of the same body as separate boxes, so the year and the batch designation are key when choosing. Neither the number of parts nor the contents of the decal sheet is stated here.
The U12 generation Bluebird was built from the middle of the 1980s as a mid-size family sedan, but the sporting versions of the SSS range made it an interesting car for competition too. The top SSS-R form combined a force-fed four-cylinder with four-wheel drive and came about primarily for homologation into competition classes, so it had a modified chassis and lightened equipment. The late batch from the turn of the decade differs from the early examples in details of the external parts and the interior, and that is exactly what this boxing captures.
A sedan has flat surfaces and long lines, so it pays to spend time on the parting seams and on laying the finish on evenly. After the primer, spray the paint with an airbrush in thin coats, let the finish cure and then even it out with a gloss overcoat. Paint the black window frames and trim in semi-matte black with a fine brush or handle them with a mask, as they are very much on view on a sedan. Glue the glazing with a glue for clear plastic. Finish the interior and the chassis before closing the body up and bring out the panel grooves with a fine paneliner.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
