Five road construction signs with red warning markings in 1:24 scale from the manufacturer MAiM. The unpainted castings only have to be cleaned up and painted, and all at once you have props that turn an ordinary model street into a living building site.
A closed lane, an excavation in the pavement, a diversion around a burst water main: road signage is a detail the viewer subconsciously expects, and that is exactly why it makes a scene credible at once. Five pieces let you mark out a whole stretch, with signs set out around an excavation, one knocked over by a passing car and another leaning against a pile of sand. They work superbly together with construction vehicles, vans and figures of workers in 1:24 scale.
Over a primer, spray the surfaces white and mask the red stripes with narrow masking tape, because sharp edges on the hatching are the key to conviction. Set the legs and the frames apart in a gray or galvanized shade. Signs on a building site are never clean: add splashes of mud at the foot, dust over the whole surface and small scuffs with a sponge. Dirty signage looks much more convincing than something spotlessly clean.
The props are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the package.
