The figure belongs to the Sanshirou from the Sengoku line of the maker Suyata, which treats characters from the setting of the Japanese period of warring states in a stylized, comic-book conception. This variant is listed as Ninja Girl Midori with the addition Prime Body, by which it is distinguished from the sister variant Murasaki. It is a plastic kit of a figure, not a finished painted model.
The Sengoku era, that is the period of warring states, falls in Japan roughly into the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and is a time of long-lasting internal conflicts between noble clans. The Suyata line approaches the theme freely: besides this character it also includes ashigaru foot soldiers and their commanders, each in two color executions of the armor. It is therefore not a historical reconstruction of equipment, but an artistic interpretation of the theme.
The greatest part of the work on a figure is done before the first coat. Cut the parts off with a margin and sand and polish the mold parting lines carefully, because on the face and the hands every groove is visible. A thin filler primer follows. Flesh is built up in layers: a base tone, thinned shadows into the recesses and highlights on the raised areas, never one covering coat. The armor, the fabrics and the accessories will be drawn out by a dark wash run into the folds and a fine dry brush along the edges. Leave the eyes until the very end and paint them with the thinnest brush you have; paint over a failed attempt with the flesh tone and try again. A matte varnish at the end will unify the surface, and the sheen is then brought back only in the spots where it belongs.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
