This set of three seagulls from the manufacturer MAiM, which carries the German word Möwen in its name as well, belongs among the small diorama figures in 1:24 scale. Animals are often what finally convinces a diorama of life, and seagulls work in a surprisingly wide range of subjects on top of that.
A harbor jetty, coastal fortifications, a fishing scene, a town square with a fountain, and even post-apocalyptic rubble with birds circling above it: seagulls naturally belong in all of them. Perch them on a bollard, a roof, a mast or a wreck and a scene gains a second plane at once. Three pieces let you place the birds in a compositional triangle and lead the viewer's eye across the base.
Separate the small castings from the casting blocks carefully, clean them up and give them a light primer. Seagulls suit the typical combination of a white body and gray wings with dark flight feathers; treat the beak and the legs in a warmer tone and the eyes with a tiny dot of gloss. A matte clear coat at the end evens the surface out, and a fine brownish wash will bring out the texture of the feathers.
The figures are supplied as unpainted castings to be cleaned up and painted. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
