An unassembled injection-molded plastic kit of a car in 1:24 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The boxing is tied not to the production coupe but to its racing form from the American sports car events of the 1968 season. It is precisely this context of use that is the main difference against the other releases of the same car, which cover Japanese circuits or the civilian form.
The Toyota 2000GT of the second half of the 1960s was a two-seat coupe with a long hood and an inline six with double overhead camshafts, mounted at the front, with rear-wheel drive. Only a few hundred were built and the car counts as the first Japanese sports car to stand up to international comparison. Besides the domestic circuits it also reached American sports car events, where modified examples raced with lightened equipment, racing wheels and event markings. It is precisely this form that the boxing captures.
The body has large curved areas on which every imperfection shows, so start with thorough sanding of the seams and a primer. Spray the paint with an airbrush in thin coats, let the finish cure and coat it with gloss varnish before the decals. Settle the start numbers and event markings with a softener, so that they draw down onto the curved body without creases. Leave the chrome and polished elements in their original finish and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue, and the glazing with a glue for clear plastic. Finish the racing wheels separately before you fit them.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
