About product

Old Propeller 1:32 four-color lozenge for the wings of the Albatros-built Fokker D.VII

A decal sheet in 1:32 scale for the upper and lower wing surfaces of the Fokker D.VII from the licensed production of the Albatros company. Unlike the five-color release this is the four-color version of the lozenge camouflage pattern, so the covering looks different while the coverage is the same. This is not a kit but an accessory for a model.

The real subject

Preprinted camouflage fabric was made in several versions that differed in the number of shades in the pattern. The four-color and the five-color version were used side by side and on a model they differ in the drawing as well as in the overall tone of the surface, so choosing between them is a matter of the particular machine you are building. Besides the parent plant, the Fokker D.VII was also built under license at Albatros and at the Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke branch, and machines from the individual factories differed in the treatment of the covering, which is why the sheets are made separately.

Application tips

Once the decals are done, deal with the gloss. A surface covered with large decals always reflects light differently from the paint around it, and if you leave it that way, every edge of the film will give itself away. After drying and rinsing off the adhesive residue, spray the model with a single uniform clear coat over the whole surface, not just over the decals. The fabric covering of First World War aircraft was treated with dope, so a dead flat finish is out of place and a satin level of gloss looks right. Apply the clear coat in several thin layers; a heavy wet coat could blur the pattern.

Who the sheet is for

  • Builders of the Fokker D.VII in 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who want the four-color version of the pattern instead of the five-color one
  • Machines from the Albatros licensed production
  • Supplementing or replacing the sheet from the kit

These are decals, an accessory to a kit. The kit, paints, clear coat and decal softener are not included in the package.

FAQ

The pattern has a different number of shades, and with it a different drawing and overall tone of the surface. Both versions were used side by side.

No. According to the name it covers the upper and lower wing surfaces.

A satin level of gloss over the whole surface works best. Doped fabric was not completely flat.

So that the reflection does not differ anywhere. Coating only over the decal actually emphasizes the edges of the film.
