About product

P-102 (ex USS Stewart) 1:400 (Mirage Hobby)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese patrol boat P-102 in 1:400 scale from Mirage Hobby. The model captures a warship with an unusual history and is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The ship originally served in the US Navy as the destroyer USS Stewart. During the fighting in Southeast Asia she was damaged and sunk in a dry dock, from where the Japanese later raised her and took her into service as their patrol boat P-102. Her silhouette therefore differs from that of typical Japanese vessels and carries the marks of an American destroyer.

Building and painting tips

In the small scale the superstructure and the armament are fine, so count on patient work. The hull can be built whole, or it can be adapted to waterline style for setting into a sea surface. Paint with an airbrush and set the waterline and the decks apart. The railings and the fine details come out with a dark wash and a dry brush.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of warships with an unusual history
  • Anyone interested in the Japanese and the US navies of the Second World War
  • Modelers with basic to intermediate experience
  • Builders of naval display cases in 1:400 scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
