1:32 AGM-88 Harm (2pcs)

Brengun 1:32 AGM-88 HARM (2 pieces)

An accessory set of cast parts in 1:32 scale from the Czech manufacturer Brengun. According to the name it holds two AGM-88 HARM missiles. It is not a kit of an aircraft — it is underwing armament you hang on a model you already have. In the large 1:32 scale the difference against parts from an ordinary injection mold is plain to see: sharp leading edges on the fins, a clean transition at the seeker and an undistorted surface on the body of the missile do a great deal on a finished model.

The real subject

The AGM-88 HARM is an American anti-radiation air-to-ground missile introduced in the 1980s. Its passive seeker homes on the emissions of ground radars and guides the missile's flight onto them. A number of tactical aircraft carry it and it tends to be hung on wing pylons, usually one or two to a machine — a two-piece package therefore matches a typical fit. The missile has a slender cylindrical body with two sets of fins and a characteristic conical seeker, so its silhouette is easy to recognize on a model.

Building and painting tips

The most delicate stage is separating the parts from the casting blocks — cut with a saw or a sharp scalpel a little off the part and sand the rest back, and do not tear them. Wash resin castings in warm water with detergent before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on remains of mold release agent. They glue with super glue, and plastic parts with thin cement for plastic. Paint the body of the missile with an airbrush separately, before you hang it, and only then finish the small differing areas. The cylindrical surface sands well with a light pass over a sanding sponge, so that it stays round. Apply any lettering on the body of the missile only over a gloss coat.

Who the set is for

• Builders of modern tactical aircraft in 1:32 scale
• Modelers for whom the simplified stores from the box are not enough
• Those who build a scene of suppressing air defenses and need matching armament
• More experienced modelers used to working with cast parts and casting blocks

This is an accessory, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check that the set matches the scale and type of your own model.
