Markings for one fuselage with the number KB837, the codes SE and the letter X. The Canadian No. 431 Squadron at the airfield of Croft, 1944, scale 1:32.
Responsibility details are not available.
Serial number KB837 denotes a machine from licensed production started up in Canada, from where the aircraft were flown across the Atlantic straight to the units in England. This particular example went to No. 431 Squadron with the designation Iroquois, a unit made up of Canadian crews which came under No. 6 Group and operated from the airfield of Croft in northern England. On the fuselage it carried the codes SE and the individual letter X, and along with them a nickname referring to a devil.
No. 6 Group was in its way a state within a state. Canada financed it, the command was Canadian and even the ground crews came from overseas, so a mixture of English and French was heard on the stations. Flying was from the flat country between Darlington and York, where fog closed the runways more often than anywhere else in the country.
A crew chose its nickname itself and a devil was among the favorite motifs. It was usually painted under the cockpit on the left side, where the artwork was visible from the place people boarded, and where most of the surviving photographs also caught it.
The individual letter tends to be the largest element of the whole markings and on the fuselage it has to fit between the national insignia and the tail surfaces without overrunning a panel joint. Measure the length available before soaking the motif, because once it is laid down it can only be moved for a short while.
The set holds the printing alone. A four engine model in this scale is among the largest builds there is and is obtained separately.
