Masking set for a model of the prewar Bf 109E-3 in 1:32 scale, with three insignia masks and metal parts for the weapons.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bf 109s of the first batches carried two dark shades above, divided into angular fields. That pattern was not drawn by eye: a master drawing existed in the factory and the boundary between the fields was exact, hard, without any blurring at all. It was done by fencing the exposed field off with paper or a sheet of metal and spraying the second color hard up to the edge. The point of that arrangement was simple: an aircraft standing on a grass strip was meant to break up from above into several unconnected areas and stop looking like an aircraft. It worked only until the theater changed, and that is why the scheme was later softened.
The film for the glazing is cut for both sides, that is for the outer frames and for the inner ones. Three masks for the national insignia are enclosed and a metal pair of muzzles from the engine decking together with a pair of wing barrels.
Machine gun muzzles and cannon barrels are among the parts on which the thickness of the wall can be seen at first glance. A molding is always more massive than it should be, and a bore is hard to drill into it, because the tool slips on the curvature. A turned part has the opening ready and it is enough to seat it.
A modeler has two routes. Either he makes the edge genuinely hard with a mask laid on the surface, or he raises it above the surface by the thickness of a piece of tape and gets a slight blurring. With this pattern the first way is the right one. The masks are designed for the Eduard kit in 1:32 scale and the plastic model is sold separately.
