Masking sheets for the Bf 109G-2 and the G-2/R-6 variant with underwing gondolas. Canopy frames on both faces of the glass, two cross stencils and a decal sheet.

Machines of the G version deployed in the east went through a transformation every winter that has no equal in aircraft camouflage. Over the factory gray, white distemper or limewash was applied, often thinned and drawn on with a rag or a coarse brush right at a field airstrip. It was no proper finish and nothing else was expected of it: it was to last weeks, see out the snow and in the spring be washable, so that the original paint would reappear beneath it.
It is precisely that impermanence that is most valuable about it for a modeler. The white rubbed off under boot soles at the wing root, flaked at the access panels and in the airflow behind the exhausts it was wiped into streaks, so the gray and the crosses showed through beneath it. At the same time the white was almost never applied to the whole airframe: the yellow recognition areas on the undersides of the wingtips and the band around the fuselage were often left out, because their whole point was to be seen.
The designation R-6 belongs to a machine with a pair of underwing gondolas holding cannon, which change both the silhouette and the work under the wing. The stencils cover the framing of the canopy from the outside and the inside, two masks make it possible to spray the crosses and the decals complete the remaining markings.
Apply the white layer thinly and unevenly, so that the base shows through in places; an evenly sprayed area looks like a factory finish.
