About product

Aviattic 1:32, a lozenge tail for the Fokker D.VII (OAW) with pink tapes

This Aviattic decal sheet covers the tail surfaces of the Fokker D.VII of licensed OAW production with a four-color lozenge pattern and fills it out with pink rib tapes. The salmon pink tapes of dyed fabric are a surprising but historically documented element that gives the tail surfaces a bold accent. The print on a clear backing makes it possible to match the tone with the other sheets of the range: if you spray all the areas of the airframe with the same base, the whole fits together in color.

The real subject

Licensed production of the Fokker D.VII at OAW got under way in 1918, and its machines carried characteristic differences from the production of Fokker and of Albatros. Printed lozenge fabric was the standard for most of the airframe; the tapes overlaying the ribs appeared in treatments cut from the lozenge pattern and in dyed fabric, blue, pink or natural. Choosing a particular combination is therefore a question of the documentation of the machine you have chosen.

Application tips

If you are combining several sheets of the range on one model, spray all the areas with the same light base at once, and you will ensure a uniform tone to the pattern on the wings, the fuselage and the tail. Settle the decals with softener onto a glossy surface, apply the pink tapes only onto a dried pattern and align them to the ribs. A final satin clear coat evens the sheen out and protects the drawing during any further weathering.

Who the sheet is for

  • builders of the Fokker D.VII of OAW production in 1:32 scale
  • modelers assembling a complete airframe covering from the sheets of one range
  • anyone interested in bold, historically documented variants of rib tapes

This is a decal accessory, not a kit: the model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

Use the sheets of the same range for the wings and the fuselage too and spray all the areas with the same light base; the clear print will then create a uniform tone over the whole model.

Yes, tapes of dyed fabric in a pink to salmon tone did occur on German machines. For a particular aircraft it is worth checking against period photographs.

First the main areas of the pattern, then the rib tapes once those have dried, and finally a satin or matte clear coat.

No, this is a decal accessory to a Fokker D.VII kit in 1:32 scale.
