Aviattic 1:32 Fokker D.VII (OAW): a five-color lozenge for the tail surfaces with rib tapes in the lozenge pattern. A decal sheet on a clear backing with a faithful drawing of printed covering fabric.
Responsibility details are not available.
This Aviattic decal sheet brings a five-color lozenge pattern for the tail surfaces of the Fokker D.VII of licensed OAW production, filled out with rib tapes cut from the same pattern. Five-color fabric with its greater number of shades reads as a finer, livelier drawing and, together with lozenge tapes, creates an entirely uniform surface on the tail. The print on a clear backing carries the fine structure of the cloth; the intensity of the pattern is governed by the color of the base.
The camouflage print on fabric was the German answer to the need for concealment without the unnecessary weight of paint: the pattern was printed directly onto the covering material in four-color and five-color versions. The Fokker D.VII, from the spring of 1918 the backbone of the German fighter units and the only type named specifically in the terms of the Armistice, carried it over most of the airframe. Machines from OAW production differed from the other makers in details of workmanship, so it is worth building from the documentation of a particular aircraft.
With a five-color pattern and its fine drawing, watch how the segments carry over, because the polygons on neighboring parts have to follow on smoothly. Work on a glossy light base, with softener and plenty of time for drying. Orient the tapes the same way as the base pattern. A final satin clear coat evens the surface out and prepares it for any gentle weathering.
This is a decal accessory, not a kit: the model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
