Eduard 1:32 Curtiss P-40E Kittyhawk gun bays is a photo-etched brass set aimed solely at the gun bays in the wing - not at the cockpit, the exterior or the flaps. An accessory for a kit, not a model.

A photo-etched brass set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for 1:32 scale. Gun bays are the compartments in the wing that house the machine guns, the magazines and the ammunition belts. The set contains unpainted etch and serves to let the wing panels of the model be opened and show an interior that a kit usually only suggests. It is not a kit and not a model, but an accessory for the plastic P-40E model.
The manufacturer lists three separate photo-etched sets for this aircraft and each deals with a different part. The exterior one covers the outer surface of the airframe, the flap one the landing flaps and this one the gun bays. It is therefore the most specialized of them - it makes sense mainly if you plan to open the wing up. It is also the most extensive of the three, because it has to cover the whole inside of the bays.
The Curtiss P-40E is a single-engine fighter with an Allison V-1710 engine. Compared with the earlier versions it concentrated the armament entirely in the wing, so on this version the gun bays are fairly large and were opened by hinged panels during maintenance. In the large 1:32 scale an open wing is a rewarding subject, because the layout of the guns and the routing of the ammunition belts both come out well.
Opening the wing means cutting into the plastic: the panels have to be cut out and their edges thinned, otherwise the rim will look like a plank. Cut slowly, with a fresh blade, and preferably in two passes. Cut the etch off against a hard surface, bend it in a bending tool and glue it with cyanoacrylate. Spray the inside of the bay before you close it in with the structure - afterwards no brush will reach in there. A dark wash at the end helps to bring out the depth and the routing of the belts.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
