A detail set in etched metal from the Czech maker Eduard, aimed at the cockpit interior of a model of the Curtiss P-40M fighter in 1:32 scale. On large models the interior is what is most visible, and at the same time it is the place where a plastic kit runs into its limits fastest, because levers, belts and instrument panels have a real thickness that injection-molded plastic cannot reach. Etched metal solves that. The set is not a kit of the aircraft, but an accessory to a model that has to be bought separately.
The Curtiss P-40 was a single-engine fighter with a liquid-cooled V12 engine and a radiator under the forward fuselage. The P-40M version belongs among the later forms of the line with the Allison engine, and it can be told from the earlier versions by the arrangement of the cooling shutters on the forward fuselage. In the British Commonwealth machines of this generation were designated Kittyhawk. The aircraft was committed as a fighter and as a ground-attack machine on a number of fronts.
Install the interior set before you glue the fuselage halves together; once it is closed you will no longer reach inside. The original plastic detail usually has to be cut away and the surface smoothed. Cut the parts off with a scalpel, fold them over a bending tool and glue them with cyanoacrylate in drops. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a primer. Bring the finished interior to life with a dark wash into the corners and a fine dry brush on the edges. Finally, check that the fuselage still closes without resistance once the parts are in.
This is an accessory for a model, not a model of an aircraft. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package. We recommend checking the exact scope of the set and the match with your own kit beforehand.
