About product

Photo-etched bomb bay set 1:32 Douglas A-26C Invader from Eduard

A detailing set of photo-etched parts intended for finishing the bomb bay on a large model of the A-26 Invader in the C version in 1:32 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model — what you get are frets with parts etched from thin sheet, which are used in the model in place of the simplified plastic parts or to supplement them. The maker is the Czech firm Eduard, which has been producing photo-etched accessories for a long time.

What the photo-etched set takes care of

The inside of a bomb bay is usually rendered in simplified form on an injection-molded model: the reinforcement, the brackets, the racks and the small installation do not make it into the mold at all or come out too thick. Photo-etched sheet is an order of magnitude thinner than plastic, so thin-walled features look right in scale. On an open bomb bay, into which you can see on a displayed model, this is the most conspicuous difference between a build straight from the box and a finished model.

Tips for working with photo-etched parts

Cut the parts off the fret with sharp photo-etch shears or a scalpel on a cutting surface, not by breaking them out. Make the bends in a bender or between two blades so that the edge is sharp and straight. They are glued with superglue, and on visible joints the gel variant has proved itself because it gives more time to position the part. Before painting, degrease the sheet and apply a primer, otherwise the paint holds badly on smooth metal. Working with photo-etched parts calls for patience and tweezers, so the set is rather for more experienced modelers.

Who the set is for

  • modelers building a large model in 1:32 with an open bomb bay
  • more experienced builders who have already worked with photo-etched parts
  • a build intended for display or for a contest
  • supplementing other detailing sets for the same type of aircraft

The package contains photo-etched parts only, not a model, paints or glue. The set is cut for a particular kit, so check before buying that it matches the model you are building.

FAQ

No. This is a detailing set of photo-etched parts intended for finishing a model you have already bought. The package contains no kit, paints or glue.

Superglue. On visible joints the gel variant comes in handy, as it gives more time to position the part. Ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on metal.

Working with photo-etched parts calls for tweezers, sharp shears and patience when bending small parts. We do not recommend it for a first build, but for more experienced modelers it is manageable.

Yes, and they have to be degreased and primed first. On bare smooth metal the paint holds badly and rubs off during handling.
