HGW fabric seat belts for a model of the F4U-1D Corsair in 1:32 scale, the Basic Line version.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Vought F4U Corsair is among the most striking carrier fighters of the Second World War. The cranked wing, called a gull wing for its shape, arose from a simple need: the large propeller called for long landing gear, and cranking the wing shortened it. Up front worked the Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp eighteen-cylinder radial. The F4U-1D version comes from the later part of the war and served with the Navy and the Marine Corps alike.
Fabric seat belts in 1:32 scale. Compared with photo-etched metal, cloth has a fundamental advantage: it can be bent, folded over the edge of the seat and allowed to hang naturally, so the belts do not look like strips of sheet metal but like straps somebody has laid aside. And in a cockpit at a large scale the belts are the first thing a viewer notices.
Lay the belts out on the seat dry first and only then fix them. Shape them a step at a time, so that the folds look as if made by the weight of the strap itself rather than like sharp kinks. Run the ends the way the crew left them in the cockpit, that is thrown over the edge of the tub or hanging down the side. Use glue sparingly, so that the fabric does not soak through and dry hard. The fixing procedure follows the manufacturer's instructions.
For modelers building the Corsair at a large scale who want the cockpit finished down to the detail. The model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
