This set from the manufacturer Red Fox Studio brings three-dimensionally printed and already colored details of the pilot's space, carried on decal paper. They are transferred onto the model by the wet method like a decal, so there is no gluing and no sanding. For this type of aircraft in the same scale the manufacturer supplies several separate sets according to the maker of the base kit, and this one is prepared for the Hasegawa kit. The dimensions and the division of the parts differ between kits and a decal need not sit on a part it was not made for.
The cockpit of the Bf 109 is cramped but clearly visible in a large scale, and the flat printing of the instrument panel from the kit is jarring on it. A printed decal gives the dials a raised edge, the faces their legibility and the side consoles their depth, without your having to reach for a resin replacement or for painting individual instruments. It is the quickest route to bringing an interior up to the level of the rest of a model.
Level the original relief with a file, paint the area a dark shade and go over it with gloss varnish. Cut the element out, soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest. Settle it in place and press it into the recesses with a softener and a soft brush, repeating the procedure at the edges. Once it has dried, unify the surface with semi-matte varnish. Assemble the cockpit only once it has dried, so that the finished panels are not damaged by handling.
The set is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
