The Mk.20 Rockeye is an American aerial cluster bomb developed for use against ground targets, armored ones above all. It consists of a casing that opens at a set point in the flight and spreads the submunitions over an area. Outwardly it is a slim cylindrical body with fins at the rear; it was carried by a number of American tactical aircraft and, in modeling, is among the frequent accessories for aircraft models from the period when it was in service.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm water with dish soap — the surface tends to carry remains of mold release agent and paint would not hold on it. Cut the casting blocks off with a thin saw or a cutting disc, and never snap them off; resin is hard and brittle and snapping can tear a piece out of the part. When sanding use wet abrasive paper and protect your breathing, because resin dust is fine and irritating. It is glued with super glue only, or with epoxy — plastic cement does not soften resin, so the joint does not hold. Level the mating surface of the pylon before gluing, and on heavier parts use a wire pin for mechanical security. Apply a primer before painting; it also reveals small bubbles and surface flaws, which are then easily filled.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit and is supplied as resin castings. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
