A detailed injection-molded plastic kit of the French First World War fighter biplane Nieuport XXI in 1:32 scale. This release from the manufacturer Copper State Models is focused on machines in Russian service, where the type was also built under license. The package holds clear cockpit parts and photo-etched accessories for the fine detail.
The Nieuport XXI grew out of the proven range of light Nieuports with a lower wing of markedly smaller span, the so-called sesquiplane. It was powered by a Le Rhône rotary engine and, compared with the Nieuport XVII fighter version, it was tuned rather as an escort and training machine with milder performance. It was used widely on the Eastern Front, where the Imperial Russian Air Service also operated examples built under license by the Dux factory. The light Nieuports proved to be agile machines that were easy to handle in the early days of the air war.
On fabric covering use a thin cement for plastic, which wicks into the joints. Apply primer before painting, mask the canopy glazing and spray the base covering color with an airbrush. With a biplane, count on rigging the bracing wires between the wings and on suggesting the ribs of the fabric covering, which adds realism to the model. Consider gluing the upper wing on only after the fuselage is painted, as it makes working with the wires and the masks easier.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
