Films for building the P-47D in 1:32 scale. They cover the canopy from the outside and the inside and bring three outlines of the national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
Thunderbolts flew from field airstrips, where dust settled on them and where mechanics serviced them in any weather. After a few weeks of operation there was therefore no insignia on the fuselage left entirely intact: the paint flaked around the footsteps, streaks stayed by the filler points and above the wing the surface was rubbed by boot soles.
A sprayed insignia is part of the paint stack, so it is worked exactly like the camouflage. You can thin it back with a solvent, sand it with the finest abrasive down to the primer, put salt on it before spraying and then wash the salt away, or run fine scratches across it down to the exposed aluminum layer. All these techniques assume that the material beneath them is uniform.
With a decal it is not. Its film abrades differently from the paint around it, it likes to lift at the edge and under a heavier touch it peels away in one piece, which looks unnatural. There are ways around it, but all of them call for caution and none gives as free a hand as a surface that is uniform from the start.
The type was built in two distinctly different forms of the rear fuselage and cockpit, and the difference between them is so great that it cannot be mistaken. It therefore pays to look at which of them your kit represents before you add accessories, because the shape of the canopy differs between the two and glazing films are always designed for one particular form.
