About product

The PZL P.11c in 1:32 scale from IBG Models

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Polish fighter aircraft PZL P.11c in the large 1:32 scale. According to the name the package is supplemented with a figure and with separate barrels. IBG Models is a Polish manufacturer that has long focused on Polish interwar hardware and offers it in large scales as well. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The PZL P.11c was a single-seat high-wing fighter of all-metal construction with a characteristic high gull wing of the so-called Polish type, which is usually referred to as the Pulawski wing. An air-cooled radial engine powered it, the landing gear was fixed and the open cockpit gave the pilot a good view forward and upward. The surface of the aircraft was formed by a corrugated duralumin skin, which is an instant recognition mark for this type. In the second half of the 1930s it was the main fighter type of the Polish Air Force; the conception was modern at the time it came about, but the rapid arrival of fast all-metal monoplanes overtook it in performance.

Building and painting tips

A large scale will reward careful work in the cockpit, because the seat, the frame and the instrument panel stay well visible once it is finished. Join the parts with thin plastic cement, which is drawn into the seam by capillary action and leaves no marks on the surface. The corrugated skin is decisive for the model: sand the joints in the direction of the corrugations, in small sections and preferably with finer paper, otherwise the profile will be wiped away and cannot be restored. Before painting, apply primer, which evens the base out and reveals the remaining marks. The corrugated surface responds nicely to fine shading of shades and to a final wash, which brings out the longitudinal ribs. Apply gloss clear under the decals and finally unify the whole model with a matte overcoat.

Who the model is for

  • modelers with an interest in interwar fighter aircraft
  • builders of large scales who want a worked-out interior
  • collectors of Polish aviation hardware of the 1930s
  • more advanced modelers who can manage sanding and clear coating

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
