Film for masking the cockpit of the Spitfire with the B wing in a large scale. A two-part cut covers both faces of the acrylic and is complemented by a pair of stencils for the circular roundels and enclosed decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
On the left side of the fuselage the Spitfire had a drop-down door with a small window in it. When a model is built with the cockpit open, the door hangs down and exposes the whole side of the cockpit including the crowbar clipped to its inner face. That piece of iron served for levering a jammed canopy open and is among the most photographed details of the whole aircraft.
That is exactly why the set thinks of the inner face of the glazing as well. The side window and the frame of the windscreen are painted in the dark interior shade from the cockpit, and camouflage goes on them from outside. In a large scale that boundary is so distinct that one-sided masking gives the unfinished work away at first glance.
The Mk V was the most numerous variant of the whole line and most squadrons carried it across the sea and over the desert. Machines with the B wing carried a combination of machine guns and cannon, given away by the domed covers on the upper skin. Camouflage runs around them and sprayed insignia hold it seamlessly, because they have no base of their own.
Seal the edges of the film with a thin coat of clear varnish. The paint then does not run under the edge and the frame comes out with a crisp transition, which on thin bars shows at once.
