This item is not a kit of an aircraft or of a vehicle. It is an aftermarket accessory from the Greek GasPatch models brand: a set of two separate Vickers Mk I machine guns in 1:32 scale, cast in resin. It serves for replacing the coarser parts from a box and for completing the armament on models where the weapon is clearly visible. The accuracy of the shapes and the fineness of the detail are markedly higher with resin parts than with parts injected into plastic, because the mold does not have to respect release from a steel mold.
The Vickers Mk I is a British heavy machine gun of .303 caliber, derived in design from the Maxim system. It works on the principle of short recoil of the barrel, is belt-fed and in its basic configuration cooled by water in a jacket around the barrel. In aircraft service lightened versions with a modified barrel jacket were used; the weapon was mounted both on fixed and on flexible mounts. First wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, which removes the remains of release agent on which paint would not hold. Cut the casting blocks and any supports off with a thin saw or a fresh blade, and never break them off by twisting: resin is hard and brittle. When sanding, use a respirator and sand wet. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), as ordinary cement for plastic does not work on resin. Apply a thin primer before painting, then a metallic shade; the barrel and the jacket look best after a light dry brush with a graphite or steel paint and after a dark wash into the hollows.
This is a modeling accessory, not a complete kit. The parts are supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the basic model are not included in the package.
