About product

128 mm PaK 44 L/55 Barrel for the Jagdtiger, 1:35, Aber

This turned metal barrel of the German 128 mm PaK 44 anti-tank gun with a length of 55 calibers is intended for a model of the Jagdtiger heavy tank destroyer, that is, the Sd.Kfz. 186, in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit but a detail accessory replacing the plastic part. On a barrel of this length a straight axis is absolutely essential, because the slightest bend in a plastic part is immediately obvious when you look along the vehicle. The metal version also removes the parting line and allows a crisply bored muzzle.

The real subject

The Jagdtiger was the heaviest series-produced German tank destroyer of the Second World War, built on the lengthened chassis of the Tiger II heavy tank. It entered combat from 1944 in small numbers. Its armament was the 128 mm PaK 44, one of the most powerful anti-tank weapons of the conflict, able to destroy targets at very long range. The price was the enormous weight of the vehicle, its clumsiness and the unreliability of its drivetrain.

Usage and painting tips

Cut off the plastic barrel as close to the mantlet as possible and level the surface carefully, so that the heavy metal part seats squarely and does not tip to one side. Bond it with super glue or with two-part epoxy, which holds better on longer and heavier parts. Degrease the surface before painting and apply a metal primer. A long barrel takes fine modulation along its length well, as well as emphasized scorching at the muzzle.

Who the set is for

  • builders of German heavy vehicles in 1:35 scale
  • modelers who want an absolutely straight axis on a long barrel
  • anyone who wants the parting line gone without filling and sanding
  • competition modelers and collectors of tank destroyers

This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a separate metal barrel, that is, a detail accessory for a Jagdtiger model in 1:35 scale.

On longer and heavier parts two-part epoxy has proved itself, and super glue works too. Cement for plastic does not hold on metal.

The plastic part tends to be bent and carries a parting line. On a barrel of this length that shows on the model most of all.

It was a 128 mm anti-tank gun, one of the most powerful weapons of its class in the Second World War.
