The SX-Art set holds self-adhesive painting masks intended for spraying the camouflage scheme onto a model of the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled howitzer in 1:35 scale. These are not canopy masks and this is not a kit, because the masks are used while painting a model you already have built. The exact package contents and the number of sheets are stated on the box. The set is intended for the Zvezda kit.
A multi-color scheme sprayed freehand calls for a steady hand, the right pressure and plenty of trials on scrap plastic. The mask sidesteps that problem: the outline is set in advance, it repeats exactly on both sides of the vehicle and you can manage it even with a simple airbrush. On a large flat body such as a self-propelled howitzer has, the regularity of the patches is obvious at first glance, and a mask secures it more reliably than the eye.
First spray the base shade and let it cure thoroughly, ideally overnight, because a mask bonds to fresh paint and pulls it off when removed. Lay the mask on in sections and press down the edges above all, so that paint does not creep under them; on curved surfaces, warming the mask with lukewarm air helps. If you want a hard edge, the mask has to lie directly on the surface; for a soft edge lift it slightly above the surface and spray straight down. Apply the paint in thin layers over several passes, otherwise the edge floods. Remove the masks shortly after the paint dries, at a sharp angle and toward yourself. Fine-tune any transition between shades with a light overspray, and only then do the decals and the weathering.
The set contains painting masks only. The Zvezda base kit, paints and an airbrush are not included in the package.
