An Aber 1:35 turned metal barrel for the 88 mm Pak 43/1 L/71 gun of the Ferdinand and Elefant tank destroyers replaces the plastic part and rids a model of the mold seam.
Responsibility details are not available.
An Aber turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale for the 88 mm Pak 43/1 anti-tank gun with a barrel length of 71 calibers, that is, the main weapon of the German heavy tank destroyer Ferdinand, later rebuilt into the Elefant. The detail accessory replaces the plastic barrel from the kit; the model itself is not included in the package.
The Ferdinand, later redesignated the Elefant, was a heavy tank destroyer built on a chassis derived from the unsuccessful prototype of a Porsche design heavy tank. In a fixed casemate it carried the 88 mm Pak 43/1 gun with a barrel length of 71 calibers, which could destroy Allied tanks at great range. The vehicles were first committed in the fighting at Kursk in 1943; after that they went through a revision that included a machine gun in the frontal armor and a commander's cupola. In this form they were designated the Elefant.
The metal barrel is fitted in place of the plastic part. Cut off the plastic barrel, level the seating surface and try the part dry first for the axis and the depth of seating. Use cyanoacrylate glue or a two-part epoxy; plastic cement has nothing to dissolve here. Degrease the metal and go over it with a primer for metal, or the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Filling and sanding the mold seam and drilling the muzzle of the barrel fall away.
This is a supplementary detail set for modelers, not a kit. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.
