An accessory resin set in 1:48 scale for the engine nacelles of the A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft in the A-10A, A-10B and A-10C versions. It is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement for the intake ducts with the fan face and for the exhaust nozzles, that is for the parts which are exceptionally visible on this aircraft.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat attack aircraft intended for close support of ground units. It first flew in 1972 and entered service in the second half of the 1970s. It carries a seven-barrel 30 mm rotary cannon on the axis of the fuselage and is designed to survive hits, including an armored bathtub around the pilot's station. The two turbofan engines are housed in high-set nacelles on the sides of the rear fuselage, so the intakes and the exhaust nozzles are conspicuous on a model from every angle. The A-10C version is a later upgrade with new avionics and the ability to carry precision-guided munitions.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, so that any residue of mold release agent disappears from the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp cutter and never snap them, because on circular parts the edge can chip. Sand the marks wet and with breathing protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting. The fan face is usually sprayed in a light metal shade and the blades are brought out with a fine dark wash, while it pays to unify the inside of the duct with a smooth light color. Darken the nozzles with metal shades and leave visible heat discoloration on them. Apply the metallic paints at the very end, because they are harder to mask.
The set is an accessory for a build, not a stand-alone model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
