A photo-etched detail set in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber. It holds the protective anti-grenade screen for the mount of the German 20 mm automatic cannon of the KwK 38 type. This is not a model of a vehicle or of a weapon, but an accessory with which a plastic, or entirely missing, protective screen is replaced.
The 20 mm KwK 38 cannon was among the typical armament of light German armored vehicles with an open fighting compartment. It was the open top that was vulnerable to hand grenades, and so a hinged wire mesh screen in a frame was spread over it. In 1:35 scale this is a see-through and very fine detail that can only be reproduced faithfully in photo-etched metal.
Shape the frame of the screen carefully to the form of the fighting compartment; the mesh is thin and creases easily. Work with tweezers with smooth jaws and glue with cyanoacrylate glue at the tiniest points, so that glue does not run into the openings. You can also build the screen in the open, swung-back position, which looks lively on a diorama. Paint in a thin coat over a base coat for metals, as a heavy application would flood the openings.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
