About product

Armament for the Soviet JS-7 heavy tank in 1:35 scale (Aber, short muzzle brake)

A metal detail set, not a tank kit. It holds a turned 130 mm gun barrel with the short muzzle brake, two barrels for the 14.5 mm heavy machine guns and six barrels for the 7.62 mm machine guns, together with a small photo-etched fret. The parts replace the plastic barrels on a 1:35 JS-7 model. They are made by the Polish company Aber, one of the best-known suppliers of turned metal barrels for military models.

The real subject

The JS-7 (Object 260) was a Soviet experimental heavy tank designed shortly after the Second World War. It weighed around 68 tons, carried steeply sloped frontal armor and an exceptionally rich machine gun armament, backed by a 130 mm gun derived from a naval weapon. The prototypes went through trials at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s, but the vehicle was never put into production – Soviet heavy tank development went another way. Individual prototypes differed in the shape of the muzzle brake as well; this set matches the version with the short brake, and a separate variant is available for the long brake.

Fitting and painting tips

Degrease the metal with alcohol or dish soap before gluing. Use cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy, because plastic cement will not bond metal parts. It is handy to glue the small machine gun barrels on only after the turret has been painted, as they are easier to handle that way. Coat the metal with a primer for metal surfaces and only then with the base shade. Darken the muzzles and the inside of the muzzle brake with an oil paint or a pigment.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers of Soviet heavy armor in 1:35 scale
  • Anyone who wants to swap plastic barrels for accurate metal ones
  • Builders of prototype and experimental vehicles
  • Competition and display models with an emphasis on detail

This is not a model kit but a detail accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Go by the shape of the muzzle brake on the prototype you are building. This set is for the version with the short muzzle brake.

No. These are only the metal barrels and a small photo-etched fret for fitting them to a model you already own.

Degrease the metal, apply a primer for metal surfaces and only then the paint. Without a primer the paint rubs off the metal.

No, turned Aber barrels come with the muzzle already drilled out.
