Aber 1:35 – a set of turned barrels for the British First World War tank Mk.I Female holds four barrels for the 7.7 mm Vickers machine gun and one 8 mm Hotchkiss barrel.

A metal detail set, not a tank kit. The box holds four turned barrels for the water-cooled 7.7 mm Vickers machine gun and one barrel for the 8 mm Hotchkiss model 1909 machine gun, together with a small photo-etched fret. The parts replace the plastic armament on a model of the British Mk.I tank in the Female version and bring accurate shapes of the cooling jackets and drilled muzzles. They are made by the Polish company Aber.
The British Mk.I was the very first tank committed to battle – it appeared on the Somme in September 1916. The characteristic rhomboid hull shape, with the tracks running around the whole outline, was meant to let it cross trenches and wire entanglements. The vehicles were built in two forms: the Male carried guns in its side sponsons, while the Female was armed with machine guns only and was to act against advancing infantry. It is this machine gun version that the contents of the set match, with water-cooled Vickers guns in the majority and one Hotchkiss added.
Degrease the metal barrels with alcohol and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. The machine gun barrels are small, so fit them only after the hull and the sponsons have been painted. Pick out the cooling jackets of the Vickers guns with a dark wash, which settles in the grooves and gives them depth. Use a primer for metal surfaces on the metal. First World War vehicles suit a matte, heavily dusted and muddy look – but keep the barrels darker and cleaner so that they stand out against the hull.
This is not a model kit but a detail accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
